COLOR MODES: Converting to CMYK

One of the constant issues in the graphics arts industry is that the tools that we use to create our artwork (our computers and monitors) display color in RGB (red, blue, green - colors of light) while the graphics are ultimately printed in CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow & black - colors of ink). When designing for the web and other media that will be displayed only on television or computer monitors, RGB color is the appropriate choice. When preparing artwork to be printed, make sure that the colors in your artwork are CMYK.

Click the software application that you use to create your artwork for simple instructions on making your files CMYK.
Corel Draw
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Illustrator


COREL DRAW

Step 1
If your "Color" window is not currently desplayed, click window>palettes>color.

Step 2

Make sure that "CMYK" is checked or dotted in your color window and you are done

ADOBE PHOTOSHOP

Simply go to Image>Mode>CMYK and your file will be in CMYK color mode. Note: If you created your artwork RGB then converted to CMYK check for color shifting from your conversion.

Step 1

Create a new document by clicking File>New.

Step 2

Select "CMYK" in the Color Mode Box and click OK and you are ready to start designing in CMYK.
